Course Overview In the previous term's "American Literature Studies VII," we focused on Kurt Vonnegut's early short stories to examine the themes of war, mass consumption society, and technological culture in America during the 1940s and 1950s. This time, we will delve deeper into the relationship between America's mass consumption society and technology during the Pax Americana period, and the 'human' living in that science fiction-like world, with a focus on his early novel 'Player Piano' (1952).
