| Course Overview |
An Introduction to Romantic Poetry On this course we shall be reading a selection of English Romantic poetry, by poets including William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley and George Gordon, Lord Byron. We shall read and discuss one or two poems each week. All members of the class will be expected to have read the poem/s, and to contribute to class discussion. We shall discuss the literary, biographical and historical context of the poems, and by the end of the course, students will have an understanding of the prominent themes of English Romanticism, including liberty, independence, and the vitality of nature. |
