Course Overview The Zhouyi (or I Ching) is a key Confucian classic, originally a divination text with mystical and numerological aspects. It consists of sixty-four hexagrams, each with six lines, and uses symbols like yin and yang for divination. The text combines two approaches: "xiangshu" (numerical and scientific) and "yili" (proverbial and linguistic). Its canonical status is upheld by its association with legendary figures like Fuxi, Shennong, Wen Wang, and Confucius.

This course focuses on studying the Zhouyi through historical divination examples, primarily using the original texts. It is designed for graduate and doctoral students interested in understanding Chinese thought through classical texts.
