Course Overview

We explain the formation and development of the concept of conservation and the principles of conservation and repair with regard to museum materials and other cultural and natural history materials. We analyse various types of materials from the viewpoint of conservation science, and to understand the current state of deterioration chemically, physically and biologically. We discuss the environment in which the materials are displayed, preserved and stored, and to carry out basic environmental measurements. We also discuss the role of museums in environmental protection and conservation of cultural heritage.
