Course Overview

This course will provide an overview of Japanese history from its origins to the twelfth century and demonstrate how ancient history is still relevant today. In addition, students will be introduced to Western scholarship on Japanese history and to a wide range of foreign-language resources. Each session will consist of a brief recorded lecture, a number of instructor-led assignments, and short research projects.
