| Course Overview |
The Zhuangzi is a key Daoist text, alongside the Laozi. Originally consisting of over fifty chapters, it is now preserved in thirty-three chapters compiled by Guo Xiang. Zhuang Zhou, also known as Zhuangzi, was an important Daoist thinker who critiqued Confucianism and Mohism through sharp fables. One notable story highlights Zhuangzi’s philosophy of living freely, using the example of a turtle that, if given a choice, would prefer a free life in the mud over being killed and preserved by a king. This course focuses on learning Chinese classics through annotations, emphasizing the study of original texts. By mastering this method, students can apply it to not only Confucian texts but also other philosophical works, making it ideal for those seeking a deeper understanding of Chinese thought. |
