Course Overview I will be conducting a lecture related to specialized research on Western art prior to the modern era (up to around the 19th century). This period of Western art is one of the most extensively studied fields in art history. Students will understand the types of research being conducted in this area.

The lecture will proceed on the assumption that you have a basic understanding of Western art. If you have any concerns about this, please consider attending the “Introduction to Art Studies” course offered by the instructor as part of the core curriculum to supplement your knowledge.

The semester-long course and the quarter-long course with the same name will be conducted as the same course. Students in the quarter system should generally take the course on a semester basis. If you have special circumstances, such as studying abroad, and wish to take the course on a quarter basis, please notify us in advance.
