| Course Overview |
This course explores eighteenth-century German poetry and literature, with a particular focus on the works of Friedrich Hölderlin (1770–1843). Close reading of primary texts will constitute the central activity. While examining his early, middle, and late works, as well as the novel Hyperion and the drama The Death of Empedocles, students will systematically study key themes such as the transformation of the concept of nature, metrics, and theories of translation. Through this process, the course aims to analyze the distinctive characteristics of German poetry and literature during the transitional period from German Classicism to Romanticism. |
