Course Overview This course will provide an overview of the history of modern and contemporary British and Irish poetry, from 20th-century modernism to the present day in the 21st century. While incorporating historical perspectives, the course will focus on selecting and explaining important poems in detail, and it will aim to provide a lecture that allows students to experience the process of interpreting contemporary English poetry in an interesting way. The featured poets are T. S. Eliot, W. B. Yeats, Edward Thomas, W. H. Auden, Louis MacNeice, Dylan Thomas, Ted Hughes, Philip Larkin, Patrick Kavanagh, Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon, Ciaran Carson, Carol Ann Duffy, Simon Armitage, etc.
