| Course Overview |
"Nihon-shoki", written in 720, is a history of the ancient ritsuryo (law-enforcement) state, and as the first authentic history of Japan from the age of myth to the end of the 7th century, it was emphasized in later periods. In the process, various stories and works were derived from it, sometimes under the name of 'Nihon-gi'. This course will begin with an overview of the content of the "Nihon-shoki", followed by a broad introduction to the discourses derived from the "Nihon-shok" and an overview of their diachronic development and expansion. Through these lessons, the goal is to understand some of the meanings that ancient literature has continued to have throughout the history of Japanese literature. |
