Course Overview

Museum Exhibition Theory is the study of the theories and practices involved in effectively communicating research achievements and cultural and natural heritage to the public through museum exhibitions. This course covers the fundamental principles of museum exhibitions, including their philosophy, history, planning, design, and evaluation. Students will also learn a variety of exhibition methods and approaches through case studies presented from the perspectives of a national museum, a natural history museum, and an exhibition design company. Prof. Maruyama will provide an overview of museum exhibition theory; Mr. Morizane will introduce exhibition practices at the Kyushu National Museum; Mr. Nagashima will discuss practical examples from the Itami City Museum of Insects; and Mr. Hong will explain exhibition planning and production from the perspective of a professional exhibition design company.
