| Course Overview |
This course focuses on developing the ability to accurately comprehend academic texts written in English. Through close reading of the text Metaphors We Live By (George Lakoff, Mark Johnson), edited by Isao Hashimoto et al. and published by Shohakusha, students will acquire the skill to logically interpret theoretical and abstract arguments presented in English. Class activities center on close reading of the text, fostering a critical approach to its content. Students will summarize the key points of each chapter in English. Furthermore, to deepen understanding of the conceptual metaphors presented in the text, students will engage in activities such as identifying concrete examples from everyday language and creating new examples themselves. Furthermore, students will engage in listening practice with comprehension by viewing related lectures and explanatory video materials. Through these activities, the goal is to develop the ability to interpret academic English texts and to organize content and express it in English. |
