| Course Overview |
Japan is a country rich in religious thought and practice, its landscape dotted with temples and shrines. This course explores major themes and practices in Japanese religions, including buddha and kami relations, the Obon festival, the participation of women, Pure Land practices, mountain rituals, and trends today. As Japanese students, some of the content will be familiar. Some will be new. Some may surprise you. As part of the International Humanities major, there will be a focus on learning how to discuss and write about Japanese religions in English. |
