Course Overview

This course is an introduction to phonology, the study of sound patterns in a language. We will learn the logical techniques of phonological analyses and the fundamental theories that underpin it. You will be asked to do your own analyses of phonological processes in English and other languages.

They will also develop the ability to construct well-reasoned phonological arguments.	Shows solid comprehension of phonological concepts with mostly accurate analyses, though with minor errors or gaps in argumentation.	Demonstrates a deep understanding of phonological theory with precise, well-reasoned analyses that accurately apply formal methods to various language data.	Displays a basic grasp of phonological analysis but with noticeable errors in applying theoretical frameworks or interpreting data.	Lacks a clear understanding of phonological principles, with analyses that are incomplete, inaccurate, or fail to apply appropriate methods.
